Workshop Objectives

Giving you the confidence in terms of the processes you need to follow when growing your team. This workshop will provide you with an understanding in terms of what you need to have in place prior to recruitment, getting the right person for your team and ensure that you are legally complaint throughout. We want to support you in the investments you make in growing your team and for that process being successful the first time. The workshop is interactive, with opportunities throughout to contribute and take part in exercises.

An example of questions we get asked and will answer during the workshop are;

• Why should I employ someone rather than use someone who is self-employed ?

• What challenges might I face legally if I take on someone who is self-employed for a long period of time?

• Can I ask whether someone has children or want to start a family at interview?

• How can I make sure I recruit the right person for the job?

• Do employees need to have an employment contract?

• Can you confirm that I cannot be taken to employment tribunal unless an employee has 2 years’ service?

• What documents do I need to check before a new employee commences employment?

• Can I withdraw an offer of employment prior to new employee commencing employment?

• Do I need to tell the employee that they have a probationary period?

About the Workshop Leader

Emma Graves (BA (Hons), FCIPD) is an enthusiastic and driven HR Practitioner with an in-depth understanding of the importance of HR in a business context. Emma manages the HR services team at Absolute Works. Emma previously managed a HR team and been part of a Senior Management Team and Global HR Leadership Team with responsibility for all elements of HR and payroll for UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden and Lithuania.

With over 18 years’ experience within proactive HR roles acting as both advisor and partner to the management teams. She has extensive hands-on experience on TUPE, policy design, absence management, performance management, disciplinary, grievance, appeals, flexible working, organisational design / restructures, employee forums, HRIS implementations, HR workflow development, training and development, trade unions, and payroll and benefits administration.

Emma has worked in HR for the following sectors; insurance, manufacturing, services and engineering which were all mid-large size companies.
